#9- No it’s not “blood and tears” / Non, ce ne sont pas “du sang et des larmes”
…but simply a detail of an imaginary forest. I just finished my art quilt "The enchanted forest" for the contest of Ste Marie aux mines, whose theme this year is "Once upon a Thread". I started from a photo, which I modified on my Ipad and here is a detail of the final result.
…mais tout simplement un détail d’une forêt imaginaire. Je viens de terminer mon tableau “La forêt enchantée” pour le concours de Ste Marie aux mines, dont le thème cette année est “Au fil des contes”. Je suis partie d’une photo, que j’ai modifiée sur mon Ipad et voici un détail du résultat final.
“Ukrainian Street”, 8” x 6”
This month I have been working mainly on my "Neighborhoods" series. I created a whole series of small format cards to practice (photos below). One of them, “Ukrainian Street”, donated for the SAQA mini-auction, was acquired for $250 , which I am quite proud of :)
“Rue ukrainienne”, 20 x 15 cm
Ce mois-ci, j’ai principalement travaillé à ma série “Voisinages”. J’ai créé toute une série de cartes petit format pour m’exercer (photos ci dessous). L’une d’entre elles, “Rue ukrainienne”, offerte pour les mini-enchères de SAQA, a été acquise pour 250 dollars, ce dont je ne suis pas peu fière :)

Then I made several textile paintings of medium size (32” x 24”/ 24” x 16”) but with different atmospheres and colors. All linked to the question of cohabitation, identity, integration, a societal problem if ever there was one.

Ensuite j’ai fait plusieurs tableaux de dimensions moyennes (80 x 60 cm/ 60 x 40 cm) mais d’atmosphères de couleur différentes. Tous liés à la question de la cohabitation, de l’identité, de l’intégration, problème sociétal s’il en est.
Light will prevail, 2020, 42” x 34”
SAQA, the international art quilt association, keeps me quite busy, as I am the delegate for Europe and the Middle East. But it is also a very active association, which organizes online training and many exhibitions. One of the paintings I created at the beginning of the first confinement in 2020 has been selected for the 8th edition of the SAQA exhibition "Wide Horizons ", which will premiere at the Carrefour européen in Ste Marie next September.

SAQA, l’association internationale du quilt d’art, m’occupe assez, puisque je suis déléguée pour l’Europe et le Moyen Orient. Mais c’est aussi une association très active, qui organise des formations en ligne et de nombreuses expositions. Un des tableaux que j’avais créé au début du premier confinement en 2020 a été sélectionné pour la 8 ème édition de l’exposition SAQA “Horizons lointains”, qui sera présentée au Carrefour européen à Ste Marie en septembre prochain.
Here is a short overview of the "Orient Express" exhibition, created by about forty European members of SAQA. Each one made a panel representing a city, a country through which this mythical train ran, or a decoration of the time. This travelling exhibition has already been to the Netherlands and Germany, and is about to go to France.
Je vous donne également un aperçu raccourci de l’exposition “Orient express”, créée par une quarantaine de membres européennes de SAQA. Chacune a fait un panneau représentant une ville, un pays par lesquels passait ce train mythique, ou une déco de l’époque. Cette expo itinérantes est déjà allée aux Pays Bas et en Allemagne, et elle s’apprête à aller en France.
Mini cathedral, stained glass (16” x 12”)
Now I'm almost on my way to the USA for a month, for the QSDS master class in Ohio. I spent a lot of time preparing for this and my next cathedral will be waiting for my return. On the other hand, I finished a mini glass cathedral, during a stained glass workshop with a master glass artist in Nantes. It was a new and very interesting learning experience, but working with glass is not my cup of tea, and I will stick to fabric :)

Maintenant je suis quasiment sur le départ aux USA pour un mois, dans le cadre de la master class dans l’Ohio. J’ai passé du temps à cette préparation et ma prochaine cathédrale attendra mon retour. Par contre j’ai terminé une mini cathédrale en verre, au cours d’un atelier vitrail sous la conduite d’un maître verrier à Nantes. C'était un apprentissage nouveau et très intéressant, mais travailler le verre n'est pas ma tasse de thé, et je vais m’en tenir au tissu :)
Here is the fabric pack I'm taking in my suitcase for the masterclass in the USA. I have to limit myself in weight and the choice is difficult. Before leaving I am trying to tidy up my studio and especially sort out my "scrap" boxes. What a lot of work! Unfortunately, I won't have the time now to talk about the creation process, a subject I had announced last month. I will be able to develop it more easily in July.
Until then, take advantage of the summer beginnings. And I will tell you more when I return.
Voici le paquet de tissus que j’emporte dans ma valise pour le masterclass aux USA. Je dois me limiter en poids et le choix est difficile. Avant de partir j’essaie de ranger mon atelier et notamment mes boîtes “à restes”. Quel travail de fourmi! Je n’aurai malheureusement pas le temps maintenant de vous parler des processus de création, sujet que j’avais annoncé le mois dernier. Je pourrai ainsi le développer plus à l'aise en juillet.
