#37-Vivaldi, Chopin, Berlioz et les autres
This summer, I worked more slowly than I had planned. It may be due to the unusually hot weather that persisted throughout the summer in Europe: we had temperatures as high as 108°F in Nantes, which is absolutely unprecedented for Brittany. The brain tires more quickly, and creativity is also slowed down.
I had planned to complete about ten paintings to finish off my series “Music Gallery”, but I only finished five, and I still have to quilt them.
My interpretation of: VIvaldi’s “Four Seasons” in an abstract way Berlioz’”Symphonie fantastique” and Erwin Schulhoff’s “Etudes”
The first three (Vivaldi 2, Berlioz, and Schulhoff) came together fairly quickly, but I really struggled with the last two, Chopin and Theodorakis. Yet their music is close to my heart and evokes rich and varied emotions in me. But such are the vagaries of the creative process. It took me a long time to make decisions, and like Penelope in the Odyssey, I repeatedly undid my work and started over.
As for exhibitions, I was invited to present my “Cathedrals” series at the Verona Festival on May 27, and my painting “We have to live Together” was selected for SAQA’s virtual exhibition “Urban Rhythms,” which you can view here.
Cohabitation, 2026, 80 x 120 cm/ 32” x 48”
This textile painting was not selected for the “Habitat” exhibition as part of the Carrefour Européen competition, but it was selected for the virtual exhibition “SAQA—Urban Rhythms.”
In two weeks, I’ll be in Alsace at the Carrefour Européen (EPM), where we’ll get together with a group of European textile artists (who are members of SAQA) for a one-day retreat. This helps us forge and nurture connections among artists. And in October, I’ll be heading to the suburbs of London for a one-week workshop with Leah Higgins to explore the “breakdown printing” technique in greater depth.
I hope to finish my “Galerie musicale” series by the end of the year. I’ll have a total of 26 paintings, all the same size—41” x 26”—which I hope to exhibit somewhere next year.
